OVERVIEW

Mobile applications have revolutionized the way we access information and have a direct influence in our daily lives. It made life easier and more convenient for millions of people around the world. Restaurants have also been developing their own applications so customers can easily access all the necessary information about the restaurants such as menus, hours of operation and contact details. Reservations are also features of restaurant apps to make things more convenient for customers.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The restaurant app project aim is to create a user-friendly and accessible app that provides customers with quick and easy access to information on the various restaurants within the Family of Eateries. This app will allow customers to view menus, locate a restaurant, make reservations, and access other helpful information about the restaurants within the Family of Eateries. The customers could also view the everyday specials of each restaurant.

THE PROCESS

Project Layout

The project began with thorough research into existing restaurant applications. Exploring what is currently available in the market provided inspiration and valuable insights into practical usability considerations for the app. The next step involved establishing the branding for the Family of Eateries and its three associated restaurants. Following this, I created sketches to outline the app’s flow and wireframes. Once the wireframes and prototypes were tested and refined in Adobe XD, I moved on to designing the user interface (UI) of the app. The UI design was heavily influenced by the branding established for both the Family of Eateries and the three restaurants. Additionally, findings from the initial research on other restaurant apps were kept in mind to inform design decisions and enhance usability. After finalizing the UI design, the app was developed using HTML and CSS, with interactivity added through JavaScript. To enhance the user experience, minimal animations were incorporated using GSAP.

Design Contributions

As part of the design team, I was responsible for creating all the vegetable, root, and fruit assets for the game. Additionally, I designed all four seasonal environments— Summer, Winter, Fall, and Autumn —ensuring each season had a unique and immersive visual style that complemented the gameplay. Beyond asset creation, I also contributed to brainstorming, research, game ideas, game outline, color selection, patterns, and design decisions to shape the overall look and feel of the game. My efforts helped create a cohesive and engaging experience, making learning about farming and sustainability both fun and visually appealing for young players.

The digital signage was designed on a 960px-wide canvas, adhering to Durham College’s branding guidelines to maintain a clean, consistent, and professional look. To ensure accuracy and consistency in layout, pane dimensions were referenced from infographics.ai. I began the design process by sketching wireframes to map out each section, followed by detailed interface mock-ups for visual structure and usability. The initial composition was created in Adobe Illustrator, allowing for precise layout planning before development. Previous iterations of the signage were refined to enhance both functionality and visual appeal. Throughout the project, I incorporated Durham College’s logo, typography, and color palette to reinforce brand identity. I also created custom illustrations to represent different weather conditions featured in the signage’s weather pane.

Web Motion Graphic Animations with GSAP

For this project, I developed a collection of three motion graphic animations using GSAP (GreenSock Animation Platform). The objective was to design web-based animations that are not only visually engaging but also responsive and aligned with each brand’s identity. Each animation was carefully crafted to enhance user interaction while maintaining a smooth and professional motion flow across different screen sizes.
